Minecraft Island

This week we have made a Minecraft desert island. I built it with Leon. It has all the details in the slide. So read that. I really liked to make the island. But with all the fun you have to do writing about what you have made. It is good at making you writing because the more you make the more you write.

Have you used Minecraft and made something, if so what did you make and why?

The Great New Zealand Tour

Last week and this week we have been making a plan for a tour around Nz, it's not real though. On our trip, four people are going on the trip, two adults and two children for when looking at prices of motels and hotels, flying going on boats etc. Our budget for the trip is 10 grand. Also for a day in a car is $50 and half a day in a car is 25$ for the fuel. We had to write down the places we go in order on a google sheet, then we had to write down the amount of money for each place. And for the food, we had to go onto the restaurant's website to see the menu and have a look to see the prices of the food we want to get. Then when we are finished the day we have to use a tool in google sheets, to sum up, all the prices. And we can use the formula tool to see how much we have spent. You can use it to do math equations really easy. And with that, you can use it to see how much you have spent. And how much left you have to  Then how much you are probably gonna spend, and so on.

Have you ever been on a big trip around your country, if so where did you go?

Time Capsule

This week we have been writing letters to ourselves for 50 years. We will put all of our letters in a box and bury it. We had to write the letter online then we had to write it all down onto paper. We had to put our details so it will be easier to track us down in the future. Well, that's if we're alive of course. We also had to write about life in 2021 so far like the Olympics. I really enjoyed writing the letter.

Have you ever write a time capsule?

Outstanding Olympics

This week the Olympics started. We have been watching the Olympics. We watched a Triathalon, the rugby sevens, swimming, BMX, and kayaking. Unfortunately, the all-black sevens lost against Fiji but in the end, got silver. For reading, we have been doing Olympics tasks. For one of the tasks, we had to pick three Olympics people to write about. I chose Andrew Knewstubb, Anton Cooper, and Rebecca Petch. I really like learning about the Olympics.

Have you been watching the Olympics?

Banana Clicker

We have been making scratch games. I made a scratch game with Jack R. It is called Banana Clicker. It is a game where you have to click a banana. Each time you click a banana you get 1 more score. With your scores, you can get better bananas and auto bananas. We are still working on the game so it is not finished. I like scratch. We do scratch because it teaches us how to become problem solvers. Also, it teaches us how to code and things like Problem Solving or Debugging.  Sometimes if feels frustrating to have problems you can solve but eventually we work them out.
Have you ever used scratch?

Emily Carr

We have been learning to paint like Emily Carr with Mrs Swinburn. Emily liked to paint trees. She was born on 13 December 1871 and died on 2 March 1945. She had a technique where she did swirls. For our latest art, we had a piece of paper and sponged it with two colours. I chose yellow and orange. Then we sketched on a goose paper how we were going to do our trees. Mrs. Swinburn put the piece of sponged paper on a white piece of paper. Next, we got the piece of paper that we sponged and drew the sketch with black paint. After that she put the paper on a black piece of paper, then we signed out names initials. Then we were done.

Did you know about Emily Carr?

Fake News

Last week we were learning about how to identify fake websites. Like the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus. This is fake, obviously. We learned how to know if these are fake or not. One of the techniques is to see if it’s a joke. It might be too outlandish, which means it’s obvious. Also, you can check the sources, do they match the story? I really liked learning about how to identify fake websites. Now I know how to identify fake websites. Do you know any fake websites?

Cool Cross Country

Yesterday we were doing cross country. The track was that we started at the bike track, then we had to run across the field. Then we would go into the fort back out, then we would run through some water, run up a steep hill, go down a hill, back up, out of the fort. And around the bike track. I had to do it four times because I was a year six. I was tired after running it. I was fitter afterward. Do you think that you could have run it?

Terrific Timeline

At school last week we made a timeline of historical events that have happened during our life. We used VisMe to make the timeline. There were templates of timelines that we could use to make them. We learned this so we knew more of stuff that happened in the past. I learned lots of stuff that happened in my lifetime. Do you like my timeline?

The Amazing Anzac’s

We made a poster of remembering the Anzacs, and a made up letter of you in the battle, to someone in your family Anzac stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps. The Anzacs were put at the wrong beach. It was tall and steep, but the one they were going to land on was a gentle hill. They fought for eight months, and they managed to make a system that will make the guns shoot so then the Turks would think that they are still there. On the hospital ship, there were 9 doctors, 19 nurses, and 900 injured soldiers. It took three months for letters to get from NZ to Gallipoli. That means that most of the news that they got was a few months old. I really liked learning about Anzac day and I learned lots more.

Do you have someone in your family that went to Gallipoli?

My story.

Cleaning Up The Beach

On Thursday after athletics, we went to clean up the beach. At the beach, we had to put on some gloves. We walked across the beach searching for rubbish. Lots of people found rubbish at the beach but I didn’t. Once we finished cleaning up some of the bottoms of the beach we went up to a higher place because the teaches thought that there might be more rubbish, and there was. Liam and Jack R found two corona beer bottles there in the sand. I learned that our beach is really clean I really liked it when Liam and Jack R found the beer bottles.

How much rubbish can you find in a day at the beach?

My Amazing Passion Project

At reading time the green group have been doing passion projects. To find the passion you had to find one on a news site. I picked the mars rover. Then you had to get a template of your passion and put it in. We write down lots of stuff about the passion. I’m pretty sure that we learned this because we are going to do it later this year. I learned how to make passion projects.

Did you know about passion projects?

Cricket Kids

We have been learning about how to play cricket. The people that taught us were Cameron and John. We learned to play continuous cricket, also how they bowl. To play continuous cricket you have one wicket and one bowler. There is a team of fielders and batters, in the bowler's team there's a backstop and bowler, and you can bowl whenever even if the batters are not at the wicket. You have one hit each for the batter then pass it to another person. We learned that because the cricket tournaments are coming up.. I liked it because it was fun and I like playing cricket.

Do you like to play cricket?

Jobs

At the start of 2021, we had to sort out jobs for the class. Some of the jobs were peer mediation, bikes, P.E shed, and gate duty. We had to do at least one of each job. Peer mediation is where you walk around the school and someone will come to you if there is a conflict, then you would sort it out. When we have to do bikes we go over to the bike shed and take all of the bikes out. The P.E shed is where you go to get the P.E gear and give the people who want P.e gear, but you need a P.e card to get them out.  For gate duty, we stand at a gate and open it for other people coming into the school.

Did you know about these jobs?

Adventure At Clued Up Kids

Last week on Friday Kereru and some of Piwakawaka, went to Clued Up Kids. Clued Up Kids are teaching us about safety drills. Safety things we did, was about trains, fire, earthquakes, safety around your house, Saint Johns (Hospital), a person from Search And Rescue, safety around quads, and horse safety. We did a rotation. Some people did each station. We spent 15 minutes on each one.

My favorite was the fire workshop, for that they blew up the inflatable house and we had to crawl through it, there was a map of the house there, I did it in somewhere around 5 seconds. For train safety we had to look at a video that showed what would happen to your car if a train ran into it, so you have to stop not the train, also it takes about 30 seconds for a train to stop. For the earthquake drill, we just did a drill, and the girl there also told us what we needed to in case of an earthquake. For the safety around your house, they set up a fake house, we had to spot problems on the fake house, like clothes over a heater, and other stuff like that. For the Saint John's one, we got a buddy that we worked with, we had a fake knife and put it on our arm and our buddies will bandage it up, we took turns. For the Search and Rescue, there was a police officer and a search and rescue person, they talked about stories about lost people, they also talked about staying where you are if you're lost and some of the gear that they use to find lost people. For one safety around quads, he told us we had to always have to wear a helmet, and to ride an adult quad bike you have to be 16+. For the Horse one, the girl there talked about safety around horses, they had a horse that was trained so it won't get scared. She said not to shout around horses because they could kick you or mush you, and if you were biking behind a horse call out then pass, we also pet the horse. Clued Up Kids was very fun.

Do you know all the safety things?

All about me poster

About two weeks ago our class made an all about me poster. That was a poster that told the teacher about us, we had to write stuff about us, like, it had our full names, our favorite food, Tv show, colour, book, age and some more. After we filled that in, we had to colour in the poster. Also, Mr Abbott told us we couldn't have any white. It took me a long time to colour it all in, and fill it up. It took about 4 days to do it because we only did it for a certain amount of time.

Do you like my poster?

E-Book

For a while, we have been doing an E-Book for writing. We started this a week ago, but we did two days of it. First, we had to find a picture on Pobble 365. It has an image to write about each day, or you can scroll through the days and pick one, the picture is the one I did. Next, we had to start writing our E-Book. Once we did that we started to recraft it. We recrafted it by making the words better and using show me don't tell me. Show me don't tell me is where you be really descriptive you can picture it in your mind. My E-Book was about a fictional creature, called Dreamgiver's.

Kawa of Care poster

This is my Kawa of Care poster, which I did this week. Mr. A put up the slide that had the kawa of care on it. We made these posters that look professional. Mr. A printed them at A4 size. Mine is already up on the wall. We used canva to create them, this was also my first time using it.
