Kite

This is a Kit Louis and I made.
These are the steps we used to make the kite.

  1. We had to get bamboo and cut it, then Ann taped it up.
  2. Then We got some paper and I drew the outline and cut it out. (It was a bit bent after cutting it out so I flip it over.)
  3.  Louis and I coloured the painting, first the sun and then our body together.
  4. Then we stuck the painting onto the bamboo.
  5. Then we made the tails and stuck them on with Ann's help.
  6. Then it was finished.
Have you ever made a kite?

  1. Hi Theo
Your kite is almost the same size as Louis! I like the picture on your kite. Did you both work on the drawing? Lucky Ann was there for one of the steps. Great job Theo and Louis!

  2. Hi Theo

This is a great looking kite Theo and Louis. It seems quite large. Have you had the opportunity to see if will fly yet? The coast is an ideal place to fly kites as we often get the gentle sea breeze here in town. I wonder Theo if you can find out why it is better to fly a kite in Kaniere in the morning and in Hokitika in the afternoon and then edit you blog post with this information.

Your kite is rather a traditional shape. I wonder if all kites are shaped like this and where this shape comes from. I know when my mother bought kites back from Indonesia they were in the shape of boats and they flew just as well as what I think of as a traditional kite. There are kite flying competitions all over the world. We have had lots of kites over the years. As a family it was always fun to go to the beach or a park and see if we could get the kites flying. There was an online shop in Christchurch that nothing but kites. I wonder if it is around it was called "the Kite Lady'.

Do you know what kites were first used for? I wonder if they were always a child's toy or if they had a role in information sharing (like flags).

I hope you and Louis get a chance to fly your kite soon . It would be great to update your post and let us know how well it flies.

  4. That is one of the best ones I have seen Theo. You and Louis have both worked very hard on this. I really like the painting on it too. I have not made a kite for a very very long time Theo. But I like flying them, it is fun.
